To Do List: Enter Contest to Win "Divergent". Check!

Woo! Day two in Blogworld for me! :D Well, here goes with today's post...

I don't know about you, but I think there have been a TON of seemingly amazing young adult books come out this year, and it's only half over! Though there are many I want to read, there is one in particular that I have been on the edge of my seat over: "Divergent" by Veronica Roth. It is a dystopian novel that released May 3rd. I haven't read many dystopian novels (The Hunger Games included) but this one certainly grabbed me from the blurb. I haven't gotten to read all of it yet--I've read the first 100 pages offered at harpercollins.com--and it's driving me crazy. I need to buy it, get it at the library, or win it--which I'm trying to do ^_^

If you aren't familiar with "Divergent" the book is about a girl named Tris who lives in a dystopian Chicago. The society is divided into five factors--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On a certain day all sixteen year olds must choose which faction they want to spend the rest of their lives in. A person can choose an all new faction and leave their family behind, or remain in the faction they are familiar with. The book follows which decision Tris makes.

"One Choice Can Transform You" is the book's motto. And for Novel Novice's contest it was all about choices; about which faction we would choose if we lived in Tris' world.

This was a hard subject for me, only because I was at a crossroads. I could certainly see myself spend the rest of my life studying and with my nose pressed in books, but when it comes to Erudite's initiation, I had to think realistically. There is a good, horrific chance that I would epically fail. If you read the book, you will discover what happens to those who fail initiation--I don't want to spoil it for you.

My other option was Amity. They cherish many of the aspects that I do: truth, kindness, self-sufficiency, forgiveness, and involvement. I could see myself in Amity; I felt confident, so I made my choice. I would be Amity.

I find it a good thing that our societies aren't divided into these factions. In real life, I would never be able to choose between Erudite and Amity. Luckily it was just a writing contest that is still open until midnight tonight (Pacific Time if I have it right) on novelnovice.com. The top 5 winners will receive a copy of the book! *Excitement!!*

Just out of curiosity, which faction would you choose? And are you interested in reading the book? Or have you all ready read it--if so what did you think, I would love to hear your opinion?

Well, Howdy!

It's currently one o'clock and I've been awake since seven. I feel as if I've had a pretty productive morning:  I've helped my Mom to the Dr., fixed breakfast, realized that scrambled eggs smell like wet dog to me--sorry egg lovers, hope I don't ruin your breakfast--started the laundry, and I am now writing my very first post on my brand spankin' new blog. (Picture me excited!) Well, since it's the beginning of a blog, I can't skip the blog tradition, so we all know what that means. Introduction time! Now hopefully I will be able to nail this tricky introductory post, but all I can do is hope. *Crosses fingers*

Well, Howdy! The name's Aimee, I'm nineteen, and I'm an aspiring author, currently writing a young adult, fantasy novel. Just as a heads up, posts about writing will probably take up a good fraction of this blog--another small fraction will probably be a recollection of hilarious things my friends and family happen to say that day; trust me, they'll have you rolling on the floor sometimes. I love to read; some of my favorite books include the famous Harry Potter, Twilight, The Mortal Instruments (City of Bones, City of Ashes, ect.). Also I'm a huge music fan; I listen to nearly everything.

I think that's a good, quick description of me. Writing, books, music, yep, that's good--me in a nut-shell, I think. Want to tell me a little about yourself?

Well, it was nice blogging with you. Until next post! Au revoir!
